Takata Air Bag Class Action

Takata Air Bag Recall Lawsuit

The Takata Corporation is a Japanese manufacturer of air bags. They have recalled more than 7.8 million air bags in the United States since 2013. These air bags were installed in more than 100 different models of cars made by Toyota, Honda, Mazda, BMW, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Chrysler, Ford and General Motors.

If you are an owner of one of these cars or you have been injured by an air bag while riding in one of these cars, you may be eligible to join the class action. Please contact our attorneys for a consultation. Fill out the form on this page or call 424-245-5505.

The recall was issued because the airbags are defective. When they deploy in an accident they can spray pieces of metal into the drivers and passenger’s face and body. There have been 64 injuries linked to the defective airbags, including five deaths. Injuries can occur whenever the air bag is deployed, even in a low speed accident.

A list of the cars that have Takata airbags installed can be found here.

Contact your local dealer if you own one of these vehicles and have not received a recall notice.

Takata has provided at least seven different possible causes of this problem all believed to be related to the air bag inflators. However, when Takata testified before Congress they stated that the cause of the defect is still unknown.

Another issue is that with such a large number of recalled vehicles, many are not getting their air bags replaced. Honda admitted the there are “simply not enough parts” to repair all of the recalled vehicles. It is believed that some injuries and deaths occurred because the owners had accidents while waiting for the parts or because they were not informed of the recall.

An important thing to remember is that this can happen whenever the air bag deploys. Whether it is a high or a low speed impact does not matter.
